What is Art?

Art is any activity that is executed by people,
whether creative or imaginative, and is a form of representation and
expression. Everything we do is
considered ART.
What is Contemporary Art?
- Contemporary art is arts or artworks that are made by artists of today. Arts from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.
- There are 7 contemporary artforms; Painting, Sculpture, architecture, film, literature, music and theater and dance and the other type of Artforms are; Visual Art, Fine art and Performing Art.
All about Region 1:
- Region 1 is also known as the Ilocos Region, which consists of four provinces namely; Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan. The capital of the center of this region is San Fernando, La Union. It encompasses the northwest coast of the island of Luzon and is known for its historic sites, beaches, and also preserved Spanish colonial sites. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilocos_Region)
I. ARCHITECTURE (Fine
Art)
The architecture today is very rich in style and in high technology with the use of advanced materials. With the Spanish Colony that influenced our country especially in region 1, there are places that were built during the Spanish regime that are still preserved to this day.
1. Calle Crisologo in
Vigan City
- The charming town of Vigan, Ilocos Sur is cosidered as the best preserved example of Spanish colonial architecture in Asia. Calle Crisologo has a different atmosphere that transports you back in time. Heritage homes dating back centuries line both sides of the street, displaying Spanish-influenced architecture that has been preserved for several centuries.
2. Ma-Cho Temple in San Fernando
- It is a Taoist temple dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu. The Majestic Five-Gate Gate is one of the attractions of the temple; Chinese temples usually have only three arches that serve as the main gate. Other features are the Bamboo Garden, the Liang Thing Pagoda, 2 circular pools or ponds and the golden emblem of a dragon, the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower.
II. Dance (Performing Arts)
- It is considered as any movement of the body in a rhythmic way for the purose of expressing an idea or emotion. Most dances in Region 1 are performed during festivals. These festivals showcase indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well as cooking demonstrations featuring the best of Ilocano dishes.
1. Pamulinawen Festival
- It is known for the popular Ilocano folk song about courting a girl with a heart of stone and her name was Pamulinawen. This festival was held in the city of Laoag, Ilocos Norter that promotes camaraderie and sportsmanship.
2. Kannawidan Ylocos Festival
- A festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur commemorating the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. Kannawidan is a variant of the Ilocano word "tawid" meaning heritage or inheritance.
III. Literature
- These are artworks that are presented through writing and spoken material. This are is used to express ideas through writing and can be categorized as poetry, prose and drama. In Region 1, many vernacular authors exceed the standards of literary artists who produced works that are popular not only in the region but also in the country.
1. Biag Ni Lam-Ang
- It is one of the most popular epic poems of the Ilocos region. It was written by the famous Filipino poet and author known as blind from birth, Pedro Bucaneg; the "father of Ilocano literature". This epic tells the story of Lam-ang's life, from when he avenged his father's murder until he was eaten by the water monster Berkakan, reborn and lived happily ever after with his beloved Ines Kannoyan.
2. Ang Singsing nang Dalagang Marmol
(The Ring of the Marble Maiden”)
- is a historical novel written by Filipino novelist, Isabelo Florentino de los Reyes before 1905. The novel tells the story of a soldier in the Philippine-American War period who falls in love with a woman from whom he draws strength and inspiration to fight for his country.
